Communication Library Mechanisms for Children’s Social Integration

The article deals with communicative mechanisms of social interaction between libraries and different population categories. In conditions of information society, crisis situations, and war conflicts libraries should not only be supported by society but also to reintegrate into social life. Legislative instruments that regulate the work of libraries for children and determine its place in society were analyzed. The information about sociocultural, educational and informational functions of libraries much broader on the current conditions than set by legislation have been considered. The study finds that libraries for children work with different categories of young people including relocates, children with limited health capacities, teach finance and computer basics, develop creative talents and provide psychological help for parents. The paper presents an idea that libraries are not only limited to leisure activity institutions but have an important role in the process of socialization. The article deals with mechanism of library interaction with young people, particularly social partnership. Based on the research of sites and blogs of regional children’s libraries, the National Library of Ukraine for children, the main mechanisms of communication for social integration of young people into public and social life were determined

Значущість творчості Тараса Шевченка у збереженні національної ідентичності українського зарубіжжя (за матеріалами часопису «Наше життя» (The Importance of Taras Shevchenko’s Creative Work in the National Identity Preservation of the Ukrainian Diaspora (Based on the Materials of Our Life Magazine))

У статті проаналізовано матеріали жіночого часопису «Наше життя» – друкованого органу Союзу Українок Америки, присвячені життю і творчості Тараса Шевченка та вплив на збереження національної ідентичності української діаспори в США загалом середовищі українського жіноцтва, зокрема (The article analyses materials of the magazine Our Life published by the Ukrainian National omen’s League of America. The author of the article examines the materials dedicated to the life and creative work of Taras Shevchenko and their impact on preservation of national identity of the Ukrainian Diaspora in the USA in general and among Ukrainian women in particular. The analysis of the magazine’s literary materials reveals that a significant place in them is occupied by Taras Shevchenko studies since his creative heritage and ideas still remain an important educational means of the Ukrainian national identity formation and a significant unifying factor in the struggle for personal freedom and independence of Ukraine. Having published Taras Shevchenko’s poetry, along with reproductions of his paintings and materials dedicated to the analysis of poet’s personality and creative work, the Our Life magazine has not only popularized the knowledge about the Ukrainian bard but also promoted the formation of his cult as of a proponent of Ukrainian independence

Портретна галерея освітніх і наукових діячів в часописі «Нові дні» (Portrait Gallery of Academic and Scholarly Activists in Periodical New Days)

У тезах представлено дослідження одного із діаспорних періодичних видань. У центрі увазі – відомий канадський часопис «Нові дні» – універсальний ілюстрований щомісячник, що виходить у Торонто з 1950 р. Серед величезної кількості опублікованих на його сторінках матеріалів чимало статей присвячено низці освітніх та наукових діячів, що внесли вагомий вклад до розвитку української культури як на батьківщині, так і за океаном. Розглянуто значення цих статей як важливого джерела до вивчення історії закордонного українства, їх роль у збереженні пам’яті про видатних діячів та підтримці національної самоідентифікації в середовищі українських громад Канади, США. (The article deals with the research devoted to one of the diaspora’s periodicals. The researcher’s attention is focused on the Canadian periodical New Days that is an illustrated monthly edition which has been published in Toronto since 1950. Among the enormous number of materials published on the pages of the periodical there are many articles on the activity of educational and scholarly figures who made a significant contribution into the development of the Ukraine culture both in Ukraine and abroad. This research considers New Days’ articles as an important source to study the history of the Ukrainians abroad. The author analyses the rrole of the periodical in preserving the memory of outstanding activists and in supporting national self-identification process inside the Ukrainian communities of Canada and the USA.
